Not Something to Play With
Substance abuse is the number one cause of death for Americans. It kills over 700,000 Americans per year across every demographic. It infects another 49 million, nearly 20% of our population, and devastates loved ones emotionally and financially. Get help here or somewhere.
Don’t Let the Stigma Stop You From Getting Help
Nearly every family has been or will be touched by this disease. Yet unlike other diseases, we talk about substance abuse in whispers. People who have not been affected by addiction can’t understand how a person can let a substance or behavior dominate one’s life. It is more confusing for the person struggling with addiction.
Many — including many with the disease — believe you can just grit their teeth and fight off the disease. This line of thinking has caused society to consider addicts as morally flawed, unintelligent and lacking willpower, creating a stigma that has stymied progress in policy, prevention and treatment. Know this: you are not weak or stupid — you have a chronic disease.
Those suffering from the disease often lose everything — relationships, employment, child custody, freedom, health, beauty, teeth, wealth, their lives and the respect of their loved ones — yet they are powerless to stop. Even when one knows the behavior is harmful and will increase anxiety, the brain has been altered and believes the habitual behavior will bring feelings of safety.
The stigma makes one feel unworthy of treatment or compassion, which leads them to not seeking the care they need. Don’t let it keep you from getting help.

You want to ask questions but are scared to even do an internet search. You are facing consequences and don’t know what to expect. Friendly, confidential support is scarce when you are going through this and we can answer questions you might not even consider.
